Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

5+ Stars
(A Lux Novel book 1)

When seventeen-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she’d pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up…until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It’s hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he’s an alien. Turns out that Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities and Katy is caught in the crosshairs. Daemon’s touch has lit her up like the Vegas Strip and the only way she’s getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until her alien mojo fades. That is if she doesn’t kill him first. description

My thoughts before reading; I have read only two books that were about aliens. I am Number Four, which was ok but TBH, I enjoyed the movie more. And The Host, which IMO was kind of an Epic Fail. It literally took me a full year to finish it. I could not get into it at all. but i also just couldn't NOT finish. So here is the deal. I saw the cover to this book and was all, "Huh, those are some nice eyes ya got there Dude." Then I read the description and I said to myself, "OK, lets save this one for a rainy day." Well I am currently waiting on a couple of books that will release on June 26th, so I figure I will give it a shot. If it isn't all that great I can drag out the read until next Tuesday, OR, if it is great I will be finding something else to keep me occupied.........

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead

 4 Stars
(Bloodlines book 2)

Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. The students--children of the wealthy and powerful--carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance, while Sydney, Jill, Eddie, and Adrian must do everything in their power to keep their secret safe. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought. description

My thoughts before reading;  I have been in love with these characters for what seems like a lifetime so reading this book is a no-brainer. I did have a hard time getting into Bloodlines, because the new POV threw me a little. It was hard to be in Sydney's mind. She has been taught her whole life to fear the Moroi and Dhampires and now she is living among them and starting to see them as individuals not just as something "other".

And after the final sentence of Bloodlines, how could a true VA fan not be salivating over this one.............

Master at Arms by Kallypso Masters

3 Stars
(Rescue me book 1)

Masters at Arms begins the journey of three men, each on a quest for honor, acceptance, and to ease his unspoken pain. Their paths cross at one of the darkest points in their lives. As they try to come to terms with the aftermath of Iraq--forging an unbreakable bond--they band together to start their own BDSM club. But will they ever truly become masters of their own fates? Or would fate become masters of them? (Book One in the Rescue Me series.)

NOTE FROM AUTHOR: This is an introduction to the erotic-romance series RESCUE ME. The Happily Ever After endings come in the following three Romance novels, but you won't be able to follow the men in their romances as well without this backstory. (The author doesn't rehash what has come before in the series and the books are not standalones. The characters continue to work on their relationships over several books, not in a single Romance, but the romances DO have happy endings.) WARNING: There are some intense themes in this book, including surviving the death of a spouse, dealing with the horrors of incest and being tortured as a sex slave, and dealing with the aftermath of war (including a wounded warrior with PTSD and an amputation injury) Description

My thoughts before reading; To be honest I am a little nervous to read this book. But alas, I am doing my book club duty.......

Let me explain the nervous part. I am a little afraid of the BDSM aspect. I have read the following; Fifty Shades trilogy (Had no idea going in that it was BDSM. I read before the hype hit. LOVED) Bared to you (it was described as Fifty like but the BDSM was just not there so I was ok. LOVED) The Reluctant Dom (I was terrified to start it. I knew it was hardcore BDSM. Shivered alot at some of it but the story was so worth it. LOVED) once I finished TRD I said I wouldnt try any more. Well here I am once again....... Stay tuned for my after thoughts

(the following warning is actually posted on Amazon. The last part made me laugh so I made sure to include it lol)

Warning: This book contains explicit sex, naughty language, tattoos aplenty, family drama, a hot rock concert…and a bad boy hero who’s pierced in all the right places.

4 Stars

Makenna James thinks her day can't get any worse, until she finds herself stuck in a pitch-black elevator with a complete stranger. Distracted by a phone call and juggling too much stuff, the pin-striped accountant caught only a glimpse of a dragon tattoo on his hand before the lights went out.

To fight fear, they must both reach out and open up. With no preconceived notions based on looks to hold them back, they discover just how much they have in common. In the warming darkness, attraction grows and sparks fly, but will they feel the same when the lights come back on? description

My thoughts before reading; I am knocking a few books off my TBR list. This one was a goodreads recommendation and the description has me intrigued......

Easy by Tammara Webber

4 Stars

A girl who believes trust can be misplaced, promises are made to be broken, and loyalty is an illusion. A boy who believes truth is relative, lies can mask unbearable pain, and guilt is eternal. Will what they find in each other validate their conclusions, or disprove them all?

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she's single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, stalked by her ex's frat brother, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Her econ professor gives her an email address for Landon, the class tutor, who shows her that she's still the same intelligent girl she's always been. As Jacqueline becomes interested in more from her tutor than a better grade, his teasing responses make the feeling seem mutual. There's just one problem--their only interactions are through email.

Meanwhile, a guy in her econ class proves his worth the first night she meets him. Nothing like her popular ex or her brainy tutor, Lucas sits on the back row, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. At a downtown club, he disappears after several dances that leave her on fire. When he asks if he can sketch her, alone in her room, she agrees--hoping for more.

Then Jacqueline discovers a withheld connection between her supportive tutor and her seductive classmate, her ex comes back into the picture, and her stalker escalates his attention by spreading rumors that they've hooked up. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy. description

Requiem by Jamie McGuire

(Providence Series book 2)

“Jared paced, brooded, and once in a while, when his thoughts were particularly tormented, he winced. The color had long left his face as he played back the different scenarios in his mind. Back and forth he paced, so many times that I watched the floor, wondering when he would wear a trail. His inner turmoil could have set the room on fire. It was unbearable to watch, but I couldn't leave him; not when he was planning my death.”

Dreaming of the dead might mean a restless night for anyone, but for Nina Grey it was a warning.

Still healing from her last run-in with Hell, Nina struggles with not only her life as a Brown University student, but also as an intern at Titan Shipping, her father's company. Recurring nightmares about her father's violent death have become a nightly event, but being overwhelmed with guilt from Ryan's unexpected departure to the Armed Forces, and heart ache over Claire being across the ocean to protect him, Nina believes her sleepless nights are the least of her problems—but she's wrong.

Worried about Nina's declining health, Jared must steal back Shax's book for answers. Fighting new enemies, and with the help of new friends, Jared's worst fear comes to fruition. Desperate, he is faced with a choice: Fight Hell alone, or start a war with Heaven. Description
