Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next.
My Thoughts; This was definitely my favorite so far of the series. Sydney is continuing on her assignment while also floating on the river of denial. No matter how much her alchemist up bringing tries to keep her from loving the Moroi and Dhampir she is working side by side with, she is falling...... HARD.
Adrian is he usual charming and yet pain is the ass self. I have a love/hate relationship with Richelle Mead while reading her Vampire Academy series. I loved her for giving me two totally swoon worthy males but I hated her for making me choose. But she has redeemed herself of that and because of this series, I can now have both ;)
I love who Adrian is with Sydney, he is still the no-holds-barred man we fell in love with in VA but he has grown from that as well. Being around Adrian has allowed Sydney to be herself, the her is is deep down inside, not the person the alchemists all expect her to be. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.
