The Education of Caroline
4.5 Stars
Ten years after their broken affair, Sebastian and Caroline meet again: this time in very different circumstances, against the background of the war in Afghanistan.
Now a successful journalist, Caroline meets Chief Sebastian Hunter, US Marine. Will this chance encounter rekindle the erotic madness of her passionate affair with a younger man?
My thoughts: I received a review request for The Education of Sebastion (book one of this series) a few weeks back. Read it.... Loved it....was left reeling at the end....could not wait to see what happened next. After reading Sebastian I was then given the opportunity to read Caroline before it was released. Iwas super excited to see what was going to happen so I jumped on goodreads to add to my reading list and I saw the synopsis. Do you guys see it? Those first three words of this book's synopsis?? TEN YEAR AFTER? Anyone who knows me or has read my reviews, knows this is my biggest pet peeve. I HATE time jumps like this. It tears my heart out every time to see that a couple has lost so much time. I took a few deep breathes, put on my big girl pants and dove right in.
Big girl pants aside, I was still pouting. I was upset about the time that had passed. I was still mad at Caroline for having left Sebastian in the first place. ( I know, I know, circumstances and all that.. blah blah) She was moving along in her life. Was she happy? The jury seemed to be out on that. Was she content? Yeah she was, I think. And then suddenly there he was. After all that time he was there right in front of her. I wanted romantic music, I wanted the world to stop and everything to cease to exist except the two of them. Well ya know what... I DID NOT get what I wanted......
You guys know my spoiler rule so I am trying seriously hard to do this without having complete word vomit!!! Forgive me because the next little bit will have a few spoilerish things
What I got was cowardly Caroline, who sank down and tried not to be noticed. And a completely and totally ruined Sebastian. The beautiful, kind, loving young man that I had fallen for was gone. And I was once again furious with Caroline. She ruined him.... he was kind and good and he loved her and she ruined him!!! I spent a few pages grumbling at her under my breath. But then things start coming together. I was once again content, Caroline was forgiven and I started to see MY Sebastian again.
Their road was not easy, I knew from the beginning that it wouldn't be. And there was even a point that I seriously considered putting the book down and giving it a one star rating just out of spite, (haha JUST KIDDING) but I pushed through and I loved it. This was the perfect follow up to book one.
I really hope you all will give this series a shot. Book one may be a bit controversial but it is very much worth the read.
